EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Following the completion of the course participants will have the skills to:

  • identify and document the vision of a programme, thus aligning it to the strategic aims of the business
  • coordinate the projects of a programme to ensure the correct application of resources and risk, issue and change management
  • Monitor the objectives of a programme and the essential adjustments needed to respond to
    changes in the environment/objectives
  • interface with the day to day business to ensure the smooth transition of changes delivered by a programme into business as usual
  • ensure that the benefits that the programme is designed to deliver are achieved

Prerequisites

Project Management experience or Project Board experience is required. Some pre-course material is provided which should be fully read and understood before the course start. This is an intensive course and some evening work will be required during the course.

Foundation and Practitioner 5 days course (including examinations)

Following confirmation of booking we will send the Pre-Course work to the delegate. This work consists of reading 3 chapters of the MSP® manual, Managing Successful Programmes 2011 edition, examinations are based on this manual

MSP Foundation Exam

The purpose of the MSP Foundation certification is to confirm you understand the the MSP guidance thoroughly enough to work effectively with those involved in the management of a programme or to act as an informed member of a programme office, business change team or project delivery team working within an environment supporting MSP.  The exam format is:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • 75 questions per paper with one mark available per question
  • Five questions to be trial and not counted in scores
  • 35 marks required to pass (out of 70 marks available) – 50%
  • 60 minutes’ duration
  • Closed book.

MSP Practitioner Exam

The MSP Practitioner certification is aimed at project managers, business change managers (BCMs) and those working within a Programme Office or in a specialist or governance position within an organization. It demonstrates your ability to understand and apply the MSP principles, governance themes and transformational flow processes when managing a programme. This level is also a prerequisite for programme management professionals progressing toward the MSP Advanced Practitioner certification, and those aspiring to become programme management professionals in the future.  The exam format is:

  • Objective testing
  • Eight questions per paper, 80 marks available in total
  • 40 marks required to pass – 50%
  • Two-and-a-half hours’ duration
  • Open book (only the MSP Guide is allowed)
  • MSP® Practitioner status should be Re-Registered every 3 years via the MSP® Re-Registration examination or by becoming an Axelos member and obtaining 20 CPD points per year (see Axelos website for more information.

NB. You will be required to produce some photographic identification before being allowed to take each exam.

Course Structure

MSP® Foundation and Practitioner 5 day course follows a two part structure. The first 3 days of the course involve learning the MSP syllabus, familiarization with the content of the MSP® manual and preparing for the Foundation examination. On day 4, following successful completion of the Foundation examination, delegates will start preparing for the MSP® Practitioner examination, sitting this examination on the final day, day 5 of the course.  This course can be separated into a 3 day (Foundation + exam) and 2 day (Practitioner + exam).  To book Practitioner a copy of your MSP® Foundation certificate will be required.
